Well being.

“I feed the pigeons, I sometimes feed the sparrows too, it gives me a sense of enormous well being…”

The above is a line from the song Park Life by a band that nobody cares about anymore called Blur.  They once got into a Brit Pop fight with Oasis and lost.  Front man Damon Albarn co created Gorillaz.  I say ‘”co-created” because Gorillaz are a virtual band and I’m not sure thats the sort of thing you can really be “in”.  They also had an album entitled Modern Life Is Rubbish, which I think is quite an accurate summary of the state of 21st century living.  Kind of.  I also think the life we are able to live in the world today is pretty cool buuuuuuuuuuuuuut that is a story for another time…

I recycled today and I think I felt the enormous sense of well being that the aforementioned lyric is going on about.  It felt rich.  I didn’t feel better than anyone else or anything like that, I just felt like I was doing something good.  I know I probably did a couple of things that were a bit crappy to counter this one good thing but for the moments that I spent putting cardboard in a smelly dumpster I felt like I was doing something right.  Pat me on the back next time you see me why don’t ya…

So, here is a list of things that I sometimes do that make me feel like I am winning at life:

• Leaving a perfect message on someones answering machine.  Not sure how well this one fits in with all these other things but golly it feels good!  I feel proud when I think of that other person completely understanding what it is I’m talking about.  I think this is an example of just loving it when I can communicate like a proper human being.

• Recycling.

• Running/exercising without wanting to puke and drop dead.

• Tidying my room/house and especially making my bed.

• Doing laundry (I did that today too!  Brilliant!)

• Riding my bike.  Or walking.  Or just not having to use my car.

• Really helping someone when they really need it and not doing so at all begrudgingly.

• Taking care of business by running errands and being a functional adult who gets stuff done.

• Leaving a really good tip.  Please know that I always tip but I am particularly fond of the times where I have a little extra cash and I can tip someone all the more!

• Sleeping appropriately.  This covers going to bed early, waking up early, pulling a productive all nighter, sleeping in and napping during the day without any guilt.
