Up to speed.
I’m still alive. I know some of you might be checking back here a lot and getting frantic with worry at seeing that I haven’t posted anything in a while but I assure that I am doing well. I suppose I better bring you up to speed…
Its been so hot everywhere lately. I’ve been trying to ride my bike but was unable to do this a little while ago because I broke it! It was nothing major, I just broke the inner tube/tire. Anyway, I went to a local bike shop and got it fixed. At first I thought I’d been charged a lot but then I decided that the price I paid would have been far less than what I would have had to shell out had I decided to fix the seemingly simple problem by myself. I would have probably had to buy a whole new bike and pay for the fixing of structural damage to surrounding buildings and probably some poor innocent bystander’s hospital bills if I had opted to fix things myself. Essentially, what I am trying to communicate is that I am not very good at fixing that which is broken with my own two hands. I hope this point is clear.
As this picture of my receipt depicts, I received a scary, apocalyptic amount of change from my bicycle repair transaction…

Yikes!
I went on a giant road trip to Las Vegas with my friend Zach. I made some videos of some of the fun we had. You may have seen them already but I’ll go ahead and put them in my portfolio for you to look at whenever you please because I’m just nice like that.
Cutty’s Campground, Des Moines, Iowa. That is where I was the day that Michael Jackson died.
I remember watching live concert footage of Jacko and being scared by the heaving crowds that brimmed over with passed out fans, who spilled over the crowd barriers sweaty and unconscious. I remember thinking “Oh my! Are they dead? Did Michael entertain so hard that he killed these people?!”.
I remember watching a film depicting Jackson’s life. His Dad seemed quite mean. I remember following his scandalous court cases and thinking “Well, he did have a rough upbringing…”.
I remember watching an interview with Jackson. He went on a shopping trip with the interviewer and bought some of the gaudiest furniture I have ever seen. He was so nonchalant about buying it. We’re talking about pieces of furniture that were worth more than anything I’ve ever owned and he was all like “Hmmm…do I have this one? oh well, I could always use another…and a million grand is a bargain…”.
Granted, Michael Jackson was creepy and weird in a few ways but you’d be hard pushed to find a pop star these days who could fill the King of Pop’s shoes and sparkly glove. They just don’t make ‘em like they used to.
Keep on with the four star stomp.
In lighter news, I got to see The Avett Brothers when I was in Des Moines. They played at the historic Hoyt Sherman Place. I can feel that my command of adjectives is going to fail me right now but please believe me when I say that they played a really good show and I had fun. To make up for my lack of description skills I’ll leave you this video that my special lady friend showed me…
Truly toe tappin’.
