As Doppelganger Week on Facebook draws to a close, and I get extremely annoyed at how effectively Facebook has permeated this blog and all other parts of my life, I think about the celebrity doppelganger links that I see.

For years I have been confusing certain celebrities with one another. It might not have anything to do with them looking at all alike, I will just get their names and faces mixed up. Even if confusion doesn’t play a part, and there is no doubt in my mind which person is which, there has always been an inexplicable link running between the people in question.

To me, an obvious example of a celebrity doppelganger duo is John Cusack and Matthew Broderick. Are they related? Am I missing out on a connection between these two, similar to the one that exists between Emelio Estevez and Martin Sheen? I am going to go ahead and say it; Robert Downey Jr often joins Cusack and Broderick to also share this mental link of mine. Stop telling me that I am ridiculous for thinking these things, and consider this photographic evidence:

See?! I told you so! I mentioned Emelio Estevez earlier, and, in my head at least, he has always been connected to Christian Slater:

Nowadays, these two look less alike. Somehow Slater has kept the same hairdo for the past 20 something years, and Emelio has let the cat out of the bag and started to look more and more like his Dad. Time is merciless.

I feel like I’m making brave and bizarre statements every time I admit these links to you. It’s as though I am admitting dark and terrible secrets, and opening myself up to your reactions of shock and criticism. I feel vulnerable. The next pair features Kurt Russel and Patrick Swayze (Lord rest his soul, amen):

Now, I am a heterosexual male who loves his special lady friend very much, so I cannot tell you why all these are between dudes. They just are, so let’s just leave it at that, eh? If I can think of any female celebrity links I’ll certainly let you know!
